Cii Youth Foundation Spelling Buzz Bee – Soweto 2012

Cii Youth Foundation hosted the Spelling Buzz Bee – Soweto 2012 competition on Thursday, 27 September 2012. The objective of the competition was to motivate and highlight amongst learners the importance of spelling. This programme has proven to be very successful in helping to improve literacy within our schools in Gauteng. T

he Cii Youth Foundation have hosted 48 schools in the Spelling Buzz Bee programme for the year September 2011 – October 2012. The Grand Finale for the Spelling Buzz Bee Soweto 2012 was held at Faranani Primary School in Protea Glen, Soweto. It was also attended by principals, educators and ward councilors. A warm welcome was given by the principal of Faranani Primary School, Mr M.W. Madikane. The M.C. for the programme was motivational speaker, Mr Abu Luqmaan from the Cii Youth Foundation. The overall project manager for the event was Mr Mohammad Seedat (Director – Cii Youth Foundation). Motivational messages was also extended by the Deputy Princpal, Mr Christopher Khoza and Mr Richard Setati, Provincial Coordinator for FQE (Faith for Qaulity Education) and GDE partnership, from the office of the MEC, Ms Barbara Creecy.

 


The following schools from Soweto had participated:
1. Faranani Primary School
2. Bassa Learning Institute
3. Donaldson Primary School
4. Phiri Primary School
5. Isipho Primary School
6. Isaacson Primary School

A share of R 6500.00 cash money was given in prizes including a gift and certificate to all participants and their respective schools.

The Winning Learner and School was: Sisle Mazibuko from Bassa Primary School. She had won R 2000.00 for her school.

The Runner Up Learner and School was: Mankebe Sanele from Donaldson Primary School. She had won R 1000.00 for her school.

The Grand Finale culminated into a spelling battle between these two learners when the adjudicators had to draw words from the Knock out vocabulary list. Finally, Sisle Mazibuko broke through spelling the winning word: Adjudicate to win herself and her school great prizes.

The adjudicators included: Mr Liaaqat Tobias and Mrs Jane Dube.

The event concluded on a climax highlighting the importance of hosting such motivational programmes to the youth.

Cii Youth Foundation will be hosting 11 schools in the Spelling Buzz Bee – Eldorado Park 2012 competition on 17 October 2012.
